The rich history behind the Asscher Cut
The Asscher Cut, also known as the square emerald cut, was invented in 1902 and named after Joseph Asscher, which helped create the dynasty that is known to this day as the Royal Asscher Diamond Company. The Asscher Cut is the first diamond cut patented for protection (which lasted until WWII), and and rightfully so, thanks to its ability to capture the beauty and finesse of the art deco style of cut.
What makes the Asscher Cut Diamond Stand Out
With the square shape of the Emerald Cut in mind, Joseph Asscher set out to modify aspects of the classic cut to truly gain a superior final result. He achieved this through multiple criterias. Most notably, a higher crown, 58 facets, and sophisticated cropped corners. The benefits of these modifications are hard to ignore. From more light bringing life throughout the piece, creating a “hall of mirror” effect, in a truly distinguished fashion.
A distinguished cut, requires distinguished artisans
Unlike other popular cuts today, the optimal Asscher Cut is a highly debatable, which makes the choice of manufacturers a crucial one. This elegant cut requires artisans that are trained in the art deco style of creation that was prevalent in the time of creation of the original Asscher Cut.
