The history of the classic Emerald Cut
The Emerald Cut is one of tremendous historical background, dating back to the 1500’s. Long before the idea to incorporate the cutting method for diamonds. The Emerald Gemstone which is known for its vulnerable and complex nature required a sophisticated cut that would allow more of the precious gemstone to remain in tact and undamaged. As it turns out, the ideal way to achieve this is the square shape of the Emerald Cut we know of today. The idea to incorporate this very same method for diamonds came much later, and was actually defined as the Emerald Cut during the meteoric rise of the art deco movement in the 1920s.
The Benefits of Emerald Cut Diamond
There are many factors that helped carry the use of the Emerald Cut for so long. This sophisticated mixture of rectangular and square shape allows for the display of stunning radiance and color showcasing. Add to that the price per carat for Emerald cuts is noticeably more affordable, and you may have found yourself a keeper.
The Emerald Cut is Demanding
Some of the very benefits that the Emerald Cut provides can be its downfall, especially when handled by inferior artisans. The Emerald cut which is known for bringing out the best of a stone, can equally bring out its worst. The choice of the diamond used has to be well thought out, by using a piece with less imperfections and good clarity. Equally important is the mastery of the cutting process, from ensuring the row facets are parallel to the girdle, and much more.
